A person who was walking the Mauao track is in a moderate condition after suffering a fall and being airlifted to Tauranga Hospital. Photo / Supplied

A person has been airlifted off Mauao after reports of someone falling near one of the walking tracks.

A SunLive reader said a rescue helicopter arrived on scene between 12.35pm and 12.45pm, where crew members were winched on to the track to assist the individual.

Police confirmed the person had since been uplifted by helicopter.

Hato Hone St John was notified of a fall incident on Mount Maunganui at 11.46am today.

A spokesperson said one ambulance and one helicopter responded.

“One patient, in moderate condition, was airlifted to Tauranga Hospital.”
