A man has appeared in court after a car allegedly hit a man outside a garden centre.

Pierre John Teki, 28, appeared in Tauranga District Court yesterday on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Teki appeared after a 51-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car outside Palmers Garden Centre on Ohauiti Rd about 10am.

Judge McDonald remanded Teki on bail to next appear in Tauranga Registrar's Court on January 11 when he will be expected to enter a plea to the charge.

Detective Sergeant Craig Rawlinson told the Bay of Plenty Times police were still investigating and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
