Pedestrian seriously injured in SH30 crash

One person is seriously injured after a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian on State Highway 30 near Whakatāne.

The crash was reported just before 4.10pm on near Thornton Rd in Awakeri, police said.

The pedestrian has sustained serious injuries.

The highway is closed and the Serious Crash Unit was examining the scene.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays. Detours are in place.”

The Aerocool Rescue Helicopter was at the crash site.
