A young male pedestrian has serious injuries after being hit by a car on Fraser St, police say.

A police spokesman said the pedestrian had been taken to hospital by ambulance in a serious condition.

The northbound lane of Fraser St was blocked as investigators remained at the scene.

Police were called to the pedestrian crossing about 3.20pm to a report of a person lying on the ground.
