A section of the track around the base of Mauao will temporarily close next week.

Tauranga City Council said closure on the Pilot Bay side of the track was to allow "pest vegetation" to be removed.

The work will begin Monday, September 24, and, weather permitting, was expected to be done before the weekend.

The council said the work was part of an ongoing process of restoring the korowai (cloak) of Mauao.

All other tracks will remain open as usual.
