Paraglider airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after crashing into bush on Mount Maunganui

A paraglider has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after crashing into the side of Mount Maunganui.

Emergency services responded to the Bay of Plenty mountain about 4.15pm Sunday after reports that a paraglider had crashed into bush.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson confirmed they attended a “paragliding incident” on Mount Maunganui.

“Two ambulances and one operations manager attended alongside Fire and Emergency NZ (Fenz) and Surf Lifesaving NZ members.

“One patient was rescued and transported to Waikato Hospital by helicopter.”

St John said the patient had suffered serious injuries.

A Fenz spokesperson said two fire trucks attended the scene and nobody was trapped upon arrival. Fire crews were assisting ambulance staff.

The Herald has approached police for comment.

In April, another paraglider was taken to hospital in a moderate condition after crashing into the mountain.
