Otanewainuku forest is a Conservation Area under the jurisdiction of the Department of Conservation.
The 1200 hectare forest has never been logged and is a gem to be treasured with its rich variety of flora and fauna, and giant rimu and kahikatea trees.
For the past nine years the Otanewainuku Kiwi Trust,
working in partnership with DOC, has been doing pest control, monitoring, education and translocation projects which have made a huge difference to the vegetation and bird life of this unique landscape.
The trap and bait station lines in Otanewainuku forest are maintained and used by volunteers of the Trust. The lines need maintenance and keen volunteers are needed. The Trust is making a special plea for help on Sunday 15 May.
