Orcas spotted at Omanu beach

A pod of orcas has been spotted swimming close to Omanu beach.

Local Halina Stollery said the pod had been going past daily, close to the shore.

"I couldn't believe it."

"They look like they're going to be stranded, they are that close," she said.

The orcas had swum past twice today.

Mrs Stollery, who lives close to the beach, said she did occasionally see orcas swim by.

"But not like this, not everyday."

She thought the pod was that of the stranded young orca 'Bob'.
