One person dead after Te Teko crash

One person has died after in a crash in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Police were called at 12.45pm today after two vehicles collided on Te Teko Rd between Edgecumbe and Te Teko.

One driver was taken to Whakatane Hospital but has since died.

The other driver has minor injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit are on the scene and the road is closed, with diversions in place.

Police said the road would be closed for some time.

Firefighters used rescue gear and cutting equipment to extricate the trapped person, Northern Fire Communications shift manager Paul Radden said.
