UPDATED 1.05pm: A truck trailer blocking a rural road at Pukehina has been lifted back onto its wheels and one lane is now open to traffic.

A number of cattle died when the stock truck and trailer overturned and blocked Old Coach Rd this morning.

Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said police were still investigating the crash and no charges had been issued at this satge.

The live stock were taken away by another stock truck.


EARLIER 11.16am: A number of cattle have died in a crash where a stock truck and trailer has overturned at Pukehina.

The crash has blocked Old Coach Rd and police advise motorists to steer clear.

Tauranga police Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said a number of animals had died and were lying on the road.

The driver has not been injured, he said.

"It looks like only the trailer has slipped."

The truck had been transporting cattle when the crash happened about 10.45am.
