Pemberton had been on holiday in Dunedin when she got a phone call from Lisa Lyons from the Tauranga Cat Hotel on the day Wesley went missing.
"I was obviously very shocked and upset. I did feel quite helpless but I was really reassured by Lisa.
"She and her family have gone above and beyond by going out and looking for him, putting flyers everywhere and offering a reward," Pemberton said.
She said it was out of character for Wesley to be crafty and sneak out of the cat hotel.
"His life normally revolves around his food bowl and me. I'm just glad he's healthy and at home."
Pemberton said she would have no hesitation recommending the Tauranga Cat Hotel after her cat had escaped and would be using the service again.
"If they let us back," she laughed.
The search was still under way for Pixie, a tortoiseshell domestic short-haired cat, who had been missing since December 27.
Lisa Lyons, co-owner of the Tauranga Cat Hotel, said there had been five sightings of the 1-year-old cat around the area and she asked people to keep their eyes peeled for her.
She said many people were either on holiday or starting to return to their homes after being away.
"We are urging people to please check their neighbours' gardens for Pixie too," she said.
Lyons said she was blown away by the support the cat hotel had received in helping find the missing cats.
"We really want to thank our community. We were fearful this [the cats escaping] would destroy our business but everyone has been incredible."
She said a $500 reward was on offer for any information leading to the return of Pixie.
"Pixie is dark grey, ginger and white in colour and her fur is very plush and thick," Lyons said.
