Josh Goldstone likes to make people smile no matter the time or place.

So it was no surprise the 22-year-old volunteer firefighter was videoed at a callout "lightening the mood" by dancing while diverting traffic.

Goldstone, who was part of the Omokoroa Volunteer Fire Brigade, was at a crash scene near Whakamarama recently when he was filmed by another firefighter.

"We were diverting traffic for about two and a half hours, so an hour into it I just started moving and dancing," Goldstone said. "People seemed to enjoy it."

Goldstone could be seen boogying, while dressed in full fire protection gear, pointing motorists in the right direction.

"I just thought 'Why not make people who were not too happy and stressed smile?'

"Some people laughed and danced along too," he said.

The landscaper had been with the Omokoroa Volunteer Fire Brigade for two and a half years and said he "loved every aspect" of being a firefighter.

He had applied to become a career firefighter, something he had dreamed of since he was 5 years old.

Goldstone did not realise the video was being taken until the end when he turned around but said the dancing firefighter routine could make another appearance in the future.
