Ōmanu Beach Surf Life Saving Club has cemented its place at the top of New Zealand surf lifesaving, powering to a commanding back-to-back national championship victory at the 2026 New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships at Ōhope Beach.
The four-day competition in Whakatāne showcased the club’s depth and dominance, withOmanu producing consistent podium performances across junior, senior, and masters divisions.
The Bay of Plenty powerhouse finished with 550 points, securing the title by a 204-point margin.
Second place went to East End Surf Life Saving Club with 346 points, followed by Mairangi Bay on 328.
Fellow Bay of Plenty clubs also made strong showings, with Mount Maunganui finishing fourth and Papamoa seventh.
“I really couldn’t have asked anything more from the team. The way all the athletes not only went about their work but pulled together and fought hard in the team events was outstanding.
“To back up last year’s result shows the depth and commitment across the whole club.”
With the national title secured, Ōmanu’s attention now shifts across the Tasman. Eight athletes will represent the club at the Surf Life Saving Australia National Championships, starting March 20 on the Gold Coast.
The club will enter the event buoyed by its dominant domestic performance and eager to test itself against Australia’s elite.
