A person has been arrested after the discovery of an alleged clandestine drug laboratory in Ōkere Falls near Rotorua.

Detective Sergeant Leonie Smith said a 58-year-old man was arrested after a search warrant was executed at an address yesterday.

“During the search, police located material consistent with a clan lab [clandestine laboratory],” Smith said.

“He is due in Rotorua District Court today charged with possessing methamphetamine and amphetamine for supply, as well as breaching conditions.”

A scene guard was in place overnight and specialist police staff from Auckland were examining the scene today.

Smith said there was no risk to the public, but the community could expect to see an increased police presence in the area.
