An oil spill training exercise will be held today at the Port of Tauranga.

The exercise, which will involve testing a boom during a strong tide, will determine if the industry is able to successfully respond to an oil spill if one should happen at the port.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council asked the public if they see the exercise taking place to stay well clear and observe the port exclusion zone.
