Sentencing for a Tauranga man who stole more than $9000 of milk and related products from his former employer and sold it on the black market has been adjourned until next month.

Peter Mark Gillard, 51, of Welcome Bay, who last month pleaded guilty to three charges of burglary and
one charge of theft, was to be sentenced in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

But sentencing was adjourned until July 10 because a probation report was not yet available.

Milk theft leads to jail

A Bay man who stole a $2.39 bottle of banana milk from The Warehouse and drank it while in the store has been jailed for 14 days.

Jason Samuel Gideon, 38, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft under $500 in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

The theft occurred on March 23.

Judge Peter Rollo said it was unusual to jail someone for stealing $2.39 worth of milk but Gideon was a "habitual, recidivist offender" whose criminal history filled 12 pages, 80 per cent of which was for dishonesty offences.

Sentencing to come

The son of a senior Tauranga policeman who kidnapped and assaulted his ex-girlfriend on Valentine's Day in Papamoa has yet to be sentenced after appearing in Rotorua District Court yesterday.

Ryan Mathew Bielby, 19, kidnapped and bit the 17-year-old before speeding from cops at speeds exceeding 170km/h.

He was apprehended in Turangi after crashing his car while fleeing from police. In April, he pleaded guilty to kidnapping, assault, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. His next court appearance will be July 19 in Rotorua.
