Mayor View Volunteer Fire Brigade have a brand new ute for their Athenree station.

The combined fire brigade (Waihi Beach and Athenree) has purchased a new Holden Colorado 2020 thanks to funds raised and local sponsors. The ute replaces the old utility vehicle.

Mayor View Volunteer Fire Brigade treasurer Jim Pooley says most brigades require a support vehicle. They're especially handy in areas like ours, he says.

''Volunteers can access places which are harder to negotiate such as lifestyle blocks, orchards and the beach — places typical of ours.

''Utes are used for things such as medical responses and it can carry extra gear for accidents and scene safety.''

Jim says fire engines have to be driven by someone who can drive a truck but most people can drive a ute.

The ute will also be used for training nights and general moving around.

The brigade has worked hard raising funds for the ute which is also partly funded thanks to LJ Hooker Waihi Beach, Athenree Hot Springs and Holiday Park and the Harwood family, Jim says.
