Save The Port of Tauranga has ordered two 70-tonne tugs worth $20 million to replace the Kaimai and Te Matua.
The first tug would arrive next February from the Hong Kong shipyards of Cheoy Lee, followed by the second in April.
They would "greatly enhance" towage capacity and ability to handle
the next generation of container ships, a spokesman said.
