New lights for Mount sports field

New lights have been installed and tested at a Mount Maunganui sports field this week.

The new lights at Macville Park, near Omanu Primary School were a success.

The lights provided an even spread of light over the whole grass playing area.

It was designed to encourage training over the entire field - the previously patchy lighting meant training activity was concentrated in the better-lit areas.

Those areas wore down quicker than others.

The new lights could be controlled by text message - clubs could turn them on during the periods allocated to them by the city council's parks and recreation department.
