Night roadworks are continuing along Hewletts Rd.

Night roadworks are continuing along Hewletts Rd.

Resurfacing work on Hewletts Rd/State Highway 2 in Tauranga is on track to wrap up next week, the NZ Transport Agency says.

The last piece of the puzzle is the Golf Rd roundabout nightworks, due to start on April 13, an agency statement said.

Overnight on April 13 and 14 between 8pm and 5am, the roundabout will be closed to all traffic for resurfacing and pavement repairs.

“Due to narrow lane widths and size of the equipment needed, a full road closure is required.”

Signs would advise motorists of detour options.

NZTA said closing the road provided the safest working environment for crews, allowing them to work effectively and efficiently.

After the Golf Rd roundabout road repairs are completed, more work will continue on Golf Rd on behalf of Tauranga City Council.

As well, four nights of repairs were scheduled for further along State Highway 2, on the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Rd (TELRD) at the Domain Rd flyover. This was to address sections of uneven road at the bridge abutments.

“To do this work both lanes of traffic will be closed at different times to complete the repairs.”

TELRD eastbound closure (towards Paengaroa) - overnight Sunday, April 13, 6pm to 5am and overnight Monday, April 14, 8pm to 5am. Eastbound detour via the Domain Rd roundabout and back on to SH2 via the TELTR onramp.

TELTR westbound closure (towards Tauranga) - overnight Tuesday, April 15, and overnight Wednesday, April 16, 8pm to 5am. Westbound detour via the Domain Rd offramp and roundabouts then back on to SH2.

There will be a temporary speed limit of 70km/h in place for the duration of the work.
