Mount Maunganui driver allegedly five times over limit after crashes

A Mount Maunganui driver faces charges after allegedly blowing five times over the legal alcohol limit and crashing into other vehicles.

The 56-year-old woman was charged with drink driving and careless driving after an alleged incident at 11.30am on Friday, police said.

Police said they received a report of a vehicle swerving over the road and hitting a pedestrian island on the corner of Marine Parade and Tweed Rd.

“A short time later, the vehicle reportedly rear-ended another at the traffic lights at the intersection of Oceanbeach Rd and Golf Rd.

“The driver allegedly recorded a breath alcohol reading nearly five times the legal limit, and has been suspended from driving for 28 days.”

The woman was due to appear in the Tauranga District Court on January 22.
