Monica Cantwel killer defers parole

A man who raped and murdered an English tourist in Mount Maunganui has agreed to have his eligibility for parole postponed for another two years.
Charles Coulam is serving a life sentence of imprisonment for the murder of Monica Cantwell in 1989.
She was strangled to death at the summit of Mauao a week into her visit to New Zealand.
Coulam, 41, has been detained under the Mental Health Act for 15 years.
In the Parole Board's rulings, Coulam's psychiatrist said the two-year stand down would be beneficial for his progress.
