"I had a shoulder reconstruction in December from my last fight when I dislocated it throwing a punch. That's all healed and we are just getting stronger and getting ready."
The dislocated shoulder sustained against fellow The Ultimate Fighter contestant Clint Hester resulted in a loss via referee stoppage, and ultimately meant Andrews could not feature in the first UFC card to hit these shores.
"It's huge for the country and good to see such a pinnacle sport in New Zealand like the UFC. Obviously I was gutted I couldn't be on the card but it is what it is. The card was a success despite some of the losses, and it was an awesome event.
"They want to do another card and I'm trying to push for Wellington ... so we'll see what happens."
Andrews, who is likely to return to the octagon in September or October, focused his seminar largely on fundamental striking, footwork, combinations and take downs before giving Joseph some personal instruction with an eye to his upcoming title fight.
"I gave Kelvin a few tips that could help with his game; he's a good man and a good listener as well and I wish him all the best."
The Martial Arts Academy instructor Christine Young-Jasberg said it was an honour to have Andrews visit the academy.
"He is really approachable and down to earth and he has run a fantastic seminar," she said.
"It's great these guys can come back and help with the sport at the grass roots level because it all starts with working out at your local gym."
