Four people missing in an Eastern Bay of Plenty forestry area overnight have been found.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the four were found safe and well this morning after not returning from a walk in the Waioeka area near Ōpōtiki last night.

The group walked out on their own, she said.

Earlier, Land Search and Rescue teams had assembled in the area to search for the four after an alarm was raised at 10.10pm when the group had not returned by dark.

A search last night had been unable to find them, the police spokeswoman said.
