Methylated spirits explode near oven

A man believed to have been holding a can of methylated spirits as he walked by a hot oven at his Te Puke home is recovering in Waikato Hospital today after the can exploded.
The 30-year-old suffered moderate burns to his right hand and forearm.
He was taken to Tauranga Hospital and transferred to Waikato at 4pm.
A St John ambulance spokeswoman said the man had been holding methylated spirits when he came near the oven and the spirits ignited.
