Name: Jasmin Igglesden
Job title: Owner/Director
Company: Vanilla Bridal

What does your job involve?

Advising and helping brides choose their wedding dress and using my skills as a dressmaker to ensure that the gown fits perfectly and flows beautifully.

What's the most challenging aspect of your role?

There are two: First, picking gowns from the latest collections that I want to stock in my shop. They're all so beautiful it's so hard choosing what other people will love as opposed to buying just what I love.
Secondly, altering the gowns, some brides want a lot changed and some gowns are very challenging to work with. We recreate dresses sometimes. It's amazing to see the before and after pictures!

What's your proudest work moment?

Finding that perfect dress for my bride. When the mother of the bride cries, you know it's the one!

What training/experience have you had to prepare for your role?

Fashion and Design Diploma at BOP Polytechnic. I've worked in the wedding industry for 10 years. I worked for the previous owner for five years before taking over in September 2013.

What's the best piece of career advice you've received?

Have a good work/life balance. Don't let the pressure of work consume you too much. Have enough family time so that you're energised, excited for work the next day.

What's the most important thing your current role has taught you?

Formal, yet fun and lively.
