A woman is assisting police with their investigation into a fatal incident in Matatā yesterday.
A person died and another was injured around 3.50pm yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Flax and Matatā Rds, near Matatā, after a report of two people having been “injuredby a third person while in a vehicle”, a police spokesman said.
The road was closed while a scene examination was completed and reopened around 2am today, said police.
Detective Inspector Lewis Warner said the victims were known to the alleged offender.
A 34-year-old Rotorua woman is assisting police with enquiries, said Warner.
“This is a shocking event and we are still working to understand why this happened.
“Police are providing the injured victim wraparound support, and support has been offered to the members of the public who were first on the scene and did everything they could to help.”
State Highway 2 in Bay of Plenty was earlier reopened after the fatal road incident.
