Police are searching for a man in the Waihi and Whangamata areas.

The 30-year-old man is sought by police in relation to a shooting incident that occurred in the Counties Manukau yesterday.

This morning Waikato police executed two search warrants in Waihi and Whangamata looking for Peter Dixon.

Opoutere School, north of Whangamata, went into lockdown as members of the Armed Offender Squad searched the area.

Mr Dixon is described at Maori, of medium build and 177cm tall, with a tribal tattoo on his left arm and a tattoo on the left side of his neck.

Police said he should be considered as armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with information should contact Waikato Police on 07 858 6200, or alternatively call 111.

Information can also be provided anyonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
