A Bay man who handed himself into police after a two-week extensive search by armed police has been jailed for a month.

Teina Jareaua Haddon, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while disqualified but denied two further charges when he appeared in Tauranga District Court today.

Haddon has elected trial by judge-alone in relation to denied charges of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police allege the assault against another man and the unlawful taking offence occurred in Mount Maunganui on August 14.

No trial date has yet been set for the defended matters which will next be called in court on October 29 at a case review hearing.
