A man was admitted to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition after a single-vehicle crash outside the entrance of the Te Puke Golf Course on Friday night.

A police communication spokeswoman said emergency services personnel including St John Ambulance staff were first called to the scene just before 5.20pm.

The police spokeswoman said the single-vehicle crash happened on State Highway 2 between the intersections of Wilson Rd South and the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Rd.

The road was reduced to one lane for a time but was reopened about 6.20pm after the vehicle was cleared from the road and towed from the scene, she said.

A St John Ambulances spokeswoman said the middle-aged patient was in a serious condition when he was driven through to Tauranga Hospital.
