Andrew Frances Neilson

Andrew Frances Neilson

Tauranga man Andrew Frances Neilson, who made false allegations of assault against three police officers, including being sexually violated by one in the back of a patrol car has been sentenced to two years and two months in prison.

Neilson,32, who was sentenced in Tauranga District Court today, was found guilty of three counts of attempting to obstruct or pervert the course of justice at a jury trial in June.

The charges include him fabricating injuries to support his claims that he was assaulted on the roadside, had his head rammed into the tarseal and into a police patrol car.

He also claimed he was sexually assaulted in the back of the car by a male police officer with a torch of or some other object.

Neilson made the allegations after his arrest on New Year's Day 2011 for unlawful possession of knuckledusters and resisting arrest, after his vehicle was stopping in Welcome Bay.
