A man was rescued at Mount Main Beach this evening. Photo / File

Lifeguards rescued a man at Mount Main Beach this evening after he got caught in a rip.

A police media spokeswoman said the alarm was raised at 5.45pm. She said it appeared the man had been in the water for about 20 minutes.

Lifeguards brought the man safely back to shore.
