The Police Serious Crash unit will be investigating the cause of the accident.

Occupational Safety and Health have been notified.

Sergeant Tristan Murray said police would not be commenting as the matter is being investigated by Worksafe NZ, and had also been referred to Tauranga's coroner.

The police were in attendance as agents for the Coroner which was standard procedure for a sudden death, and the deceased's name would be released once his next-of-kin had been notified.
