The owner of a caravan that was crashed into in Pāpāmoa on Saturday night said the driver of the car is "lucky to be alive".

Owner Tracy Rolfe said she heard a "huge bang" outside and realised someone had hit her caravan.

She said the driver had hit a parked car on the side of the road and then went straight into her parked caravan on the other side of the road.

The car was tipped upside down on the road, surrounded by debris, leaving substantial damage to the caravan and parked car

A 46-year-old Katikati man was trapped in the vehicle following the crash and needed to be removed by Fire and Emergency.

Fire and Emergency northern shift manager Murray Bannister said they were called to a report of a car colliding with a caravan at Karewa Parade in Pāpāmoa Beach about 11.15pm.

Volunteer firefighters from Pāpāmoa and Te Puke reported a car was on its roof and one person was trapped inside.

St John said one person had been seriously injured and was taken to Tauranga Hospital.
