A man is in custody after police were called to Welcome Bay tonight.

A police spokesman said there was a planned police event in Welcome Bay, starting just before 6pm.

"A man was taken into custody on Waitaha Rd without incident in relation to a family harm incident," the spokesman said.

"Local people would have seen police activity in the area while cordons were in place. Police appreciate the patience shown by the public while police staff and AOS members attended this event."
