Man hit by logging truck remains in intensive care

A 39-year-old local man hit by a logging truck on the Takitimu Drive expressway remains in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit.

Head of Western Bay road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion told the Bay of Plenty Times today that the injured man was in a serious but stable condition.

Mr Campion said the patient's prognosis was good, and he was expected to survive his injuries.

Police were still trying to piece together the injured man's movements before he was struck by the logging truck at about 4.45am on Friday, March 18, he said.

However, Mr Campion said police had established that the Maori man was involved in another incident at the nearby Mobil petrol station on Chapel Street just before being struck.

"We have spoken to the truck driver, the duty manager and another witness from the Mobil petrol station but we are still keen to speak to anyone else who has any information, particularly any sightings of the injured man after he left the petrol station, he said.
