A Bay man suffering a serious medical condition was flown from Whangamata to Waikato Hospital overnight.

The 76-year-old was stabilised by St John paramedics about 9.30pm but required hospital treatment.

The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched due to the location and distance from the required hospital.

Philips Search and Rescue Trust is a charitable organisation, operating rescue helicopters throughout the Central North Island. Philips Search and Rescue Trust relies on support from principal sponsors and community donations.
