Man faces charges after Bay of Plenty police pursuit

A Maketu man is facing charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit before road spikes stopped him on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old man, due to appear in Tauranga District Court on May 9, has been charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and drink driving.

A police media spokeswoman said the motorist allegedly sped through the roundabout at State Highway 2 and State Highway 33 near Paengaroa.

The spokeswoman said the car was eventually stopped by road spikes.

No one was injured in the incident, she said.
