The identity of man accused of being responsible for a sexual abduction of a woman in Mount Maunganui last Saturday has been suppressed.

The 35-year-old New Plymouth man faced charges in Tauranga District Court yesterday of abduction for sex, threatens to kill and assault with intent to commit unlawful sexual connection.

He also faced a further charge of with reckless disregard for the safety of others injured the female complainant.

The accused man, who was granted interim name suppression until at least his next court appearance, was remanded in custody. He is due back in court on June 3.

The man's arrest came after Bay of Plenty Police appealed to the public through Facebook to track down a man who was captured on CCTV footage after the alleged Saturday assault.
