CIB head Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the matter came to the police through tip from a member of the public.

CIB head Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the matter came to the police through tip from a member of the public.

A Tauranga security officer is accused of trying to arrange for someone to kill his parents.

Alan Francis Barlow, 42, who appeared in Tauranga Registrar's Court yesterday faced a charge of attempting to procure a special duties police officer to murder Kevin James Barlow and Diana Noeleen Barlow.

Court documents show police allege that on October 12 this year Barlow approached an undercover police officer in Huntly and attempted to arrange the murder of his parents.

The Bay of Plenty Times understands Barlow's parents are in their mid-60s.

Tauranga CIB head Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said now the matter was before the courts he would not comment further, other than to say the matter came to police's attention following a tip off from a member of public.

Mr Turner would not discuss the exact nature of the alleged murder plot nor reveal any details relating to Barlow's parents, including where they lived.

Barlow was granted bail on strict terms, including a ban on him leaving the country, and other restrictions of his travel movements.

Barlow is yet to enter a plea to the charge.
