Police are hunting for two men after a 17-year-old girl was abducted from an Auckland supermarket carpark in broad daylight and sexually violated in a car.

One of the men, Murray Edward Thomas Robertson, 62, faces two warrants for his arrest for allegedly abducting a teenage girl for sex, Detective Inspector Scott Beard of Auckland City Police said this afternoon.

The woman was allegedly forced into a vehicle by Robertson at the Mt Roskill New World carpark about 4pm last Friday, Beard said.

"There was another unknown man waiting in the car who has held her down," the veteran detective said.

"They have then driven the victim around and parked up on Roseman Avenue, Mt Roskill, and she has been sexually violated.

"She has eventually managed to break free and get out of the vehicle and sought assistance from members of the public who contacted police."

The incident was first reported to police on Friday evening, just hours after the 17-year-old was snatched taken from the carpark.

Police, however, did not warn the public about the attack, or call for assistance, before today due to protocols and processes, Beard said.

Their first concern was with the victim and ensuring they were okay, he added.

During the weekend police then reviewed CCTV footage and spoke to witnesses before a second woman, a 29-year-old, came forward this morning.

She was allegedly kidnapped on Sunday in Blockhouse Bay before she was sexually violated on Kinross St, Beard said.

Police believe the two incidents are linked.

Man arrested after random blindside tackle in Tauranga

"We believe they are linked," Beard said. "We're treating the crimes as extremely serious and Murray Robertson is dangerous."

There were no connections between Robertson and the women, Beard said, leading police to believe the attacks were random.

Beard urged anyone who saw anything suspicious on Friday to contact police.

Robertson, meanwhile, was last seen on Monday at a service station in Tauranga and is known to drive a silver/grey coloured Mazda MPV with the registration HTW761.

Given his links throughout South Auckland and the Bay of Plenty, Beard asked upper North Island residents to be vigilant and report anything suspicious.

"These are very serious crimes and police have a number of officers working on the investigations. Our priority is to locate Murray Robertson and to identify the other male involved in the first incident," Beard said.

"The victims involved in both matters are understandably traumatised."
