The woman killed in a crash in the Eastern Bay of Plenty on Sunday has been named.

She was Lynette Hiria McRae, known to many as Hiria, from Maketu.

It is understood McRae, 54, had been riding a motorcycle at Waihau Bay when she collided with a light van on State Highway 35 that afternoon.

The Western Bay of Plenty Serious Crash Unit was called to investigate.

A police communications spokeswoman said inquiries were ongoing.
