Major slip closes Kaimai Range

A large slip has blocked both lanes of State Highway 29 on the Kaimai Range tonight.

Police said the slip is located about half way to the summit on the Matamata side of the range.

All lanes are reported to be blocked by mud and vegetation, 1.5 metres high.

Drivers should avoid SH29 until contractors can clear the slip.

A police northern communication spokesperson said police were putting in diversions.
