Lines down and power out after bus crashes into power pole outside Mount Maunganui school

Fifty properties are without power after a bus knocked powerlines down outside a Mount Maunganui school.

Police were notified that a bus had crashed into a power pole outside Mount Maunganui Intermediate School on Links Ave about 8.15am, a police spokeswoman said.

Powerlines were covering a nearby pedestrian crossing, she said.

There were no injuries.

Powerco Network operations manager Karen Frew said power was expected to be back on by 2pm.

"This is a timely reminder to treat power lines as live at all times. Keep at least four metres away from power lines as downed power lines can kill and cause serious injury."

A person has commented on social media saying people should avoid the area if possible because the road is blocked.
