A gyrocopter crashed at Tauranga Airport on February 15.

Fire and Emergency received a report of a light plane crash at Tauranga Airport, a spokesperson says.

“Two fire trucks are attending.”

Police were notified of the crash on Aerodrome Rd, Mount Maunganui, at around 12pm.

“One person has received moderate injuries and has been assessed by ambulance,” a spokesperson confirmed.

One ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one operation manager attended, a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.

“One patient, in a moderate condition, was transported to hospital.”

The Civil Aviation Authority said they knew of an accident involving a light aircraft at Tauranga Airport on February 15.

“We will conduct preliminary enquiries over the coming days to establish what happened and if any further action might be required.”
