Two people have been taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries after a light aircraft crashed in Tauranga.

“We received a call at 4.50pm to a light aircraft that had crashed at the Tauranga Airport,” said Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Josh Pennefather.

“We sent three fire trucks from the surrounding Tauranga stations. No one was trapped.”

Fenz had since left the incident with Tauranga Airport to manage.

A Tauranga Airport spokesperson said a small, two-seater aircraft had crashed at Tauranga Airport.

“The crash has caused minor damage to the runway which is currently being repaired and expected to be operational this evening.”

The spokesperson said there may be some impact on flights this evening and tomorrow morning as a result of these works.
