Flannagans Irish Pub is also seeking the renewal of its on-licence.

Flannagans Irish Pub is also seeking the renewal of its on-licence.

The Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority is to consider applications by police to suspend liquor licences for two local taverns and their managers' certificates later this month.

Public hearings will be held on February 17 for two applications to suspend on-licences for Flannagans Irish Pub (1997) which operates as Flannagans Sports Bar, and Cheviot Town Limited, operating as Settlers Tavern, and their managers.

Flannagans Irish Pub is also seeking the renewal of its on-licence.

Sergeant Nigel McGlone, Western Bay's liquor licensing co-ordinator, said he could not comment in detail about the suspension applications ahead of the hearing other than to say the applications stemmed from general monitoring and alleged intoxication issues.

Also scheduled to be dealt with at a separate hearing at 10.30am on February 16 at the same venue is a consent order in respect of appeals against the Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council's joint Provisional Local Alcohol Policy.

Appeals have been lodged by Foodstuffs North Island, Liquorland, and Super Liquor Holdings, while interested parties include The Mill Retail Holdings and Independent Liquor (New Zealand).

Tauranga City and Western Bay of Plenty District councils have agreed to remove the cap limiting the number of new off-licences (new bottle stores) allowed to be set up in the district, after successful challenges from commercial interests, subject to appeals.
