Look at the corners
Interesting to see how, after the very successful design of the Maungatapu underpass, they have made such a balls-up of the lane.
Council and Land Transport want to close the lane for three months while they devise a remedy for it.
The solution can be foundby looking at every other corner in Welcome Bay which cyclists seem to get past without incident. They need to reconstruct the kerb and channel to make an actual left turn rather than a fork in the road.
If a slip lane is also installed with dedicated left turn road marking it will give both drivers and cyclists time to safely negotiate the corner.
No need for little bollards or colourful road marking. While they are at it they should reconstruct the first bend on the lane. The camber is such that at least one car has hit the safety rail. Dan Russell Welcome Bay
Solutions needed I applaud Hillary Borrows for her letter relating to Highway 2 (September 28).
I feel the responsibility to drive safely is with the driver whatever the current conditions.
Do we need warnings along the way that are not heeded?
Park and ride areas have been shown to work in many places. Could we not modify our reliance on our own cars?
Tauranga is such a growth area, an obvious thing to say. I concede that we do have a problem with transport to the city from the north. It must be addressed as soon as possible.
I recently accompanied a lady in a wheelchair in a mobility van along Takitimu Dr. The ride was so rough for her, unnoticed in a car. It was enough to have ejected her from her seat if she had not been firmly restrained.
