Amalgamate councils
Why doesn't the Western Bay District Council change the whole boundary of its district to the Tauranga City, one mayor one council - look at the savings and extra rates.
The Western Bay District Council offices on Barkes Corner are already, I understand, paying rates to Tauranga City and I would say most of the staff live in Tauranga City, so why not let the area that they administer have the same privilege, work live and play together?
We at Waihī Beach could lose our community board, our only measure of contact to the council which is in the middle of Tauranga, but with the cost savings of staff by having one council, we would be able to keep our community representation.

'Ludicrous' hotel proposal
Thank you Bay of Plenty Times for publishing the names of councillors who voted for the, in my opinion, ludicrous proposal to spend money on developing a hotel in Tauranga.
I will be sure to stick it to my fridge to remind me not to vote for these people at the next election.
Well done John Robson and others for speaking up against this crazy scheme.
Unfortunately, the vote was passed. Maybe enough public outcry will change their addled minds?
When will council realise their purpose is to look after infrastructure, not private enterprise?
How about spending the money on the Turret Rd/15th Ave shemozzle instead?
