LOVE BOMB: The Greerton yarn bombers feel the love in our letters. Photo/file

In defence of yarn bombers

We have just returned from a trip to Tauranga from Katikati. We detoured through Greerton especially to look at the "yarn bombing".

Absolutely loved it. It was awesome and recommend everyone to go and look.
It was bright, colourful and inspiring. It made our day and we don't consider it a waste of anything.

Congratulations and well done Greerton.

A brighter day

An enormous thank you to the wonderful people who have created the beautiful knitwear for the Greerton Village trees.

The colours and humour of the knitted artwork brighten my day every time I drive through Greerton.

We all should be so grateful to have a community of talented artists show their talents to us for free.

I also think this is the best year yet.

Knit-pickers

I'm not surprised that some readers are critical of the time, effort and expense involved in decorating trees etc in the Greerton shopping area.

They say the same thing every year. In response I'd like to ask . . . do they call flower gardens useless whereas vege gardens can feed the hungry?

Should artists cease painting pictures, and paint fences instead? Why expend energy playing sport when you could be cleaning up beaches and roadsides?

The examples could go on and on. Stop knit-picking and enjoy the scenery.

A bit of fun

With the recent naysayers around the yarn bombing in Greerton, I would like to express my support for the yarn bombers and thank them for putting a bit of fun into our community.

Yes, there are many needy people out there, no denying that. However, you will find a lot of the yarn bombers do knit and donate items and I know that a lot of them re-use pieces of knitting from year to year.

With this year's feature of local hardworking charities, I think it is great.

Coming from one of these charities it has been a great social activity over the last few months in getting together over a shared lunch, having a laugh and helping to create the project.

Keeping socially engaged is one of the biggest risk-reduction activities against developing a dementia disease.

So thank you to the knitting beavers for your support and know that there are a lot of us that like your efforts to put a smile on people's faces and, if nothing else, cause conversations around the community.

Remember there is no right or wrong in someone giving their opinion, it is after all only your opinion. Keep up the good work.

Bringing smiles

I for one would like to say many thanks for all those knitters who have brightened the days with the lovely warm colours on the trees in Greerton Village.

What a fantastic idea for all to see and when in Greerton I notice the smiles that it has brought to many faces as I see them stop by the trees and take photos. They seem fascinated by them.

There are many others who knit and donate to worthy causes, some of these knitters may also do that, but have also decided to have some fun.

Come on, let's also smile and enjoy the idea.

These people do benefit our community by taking the time to bring joy and a smile to brighten our days.

More free stuff

So, we are to get a free parking building for cyclists, and a free locker, and a free shower, but there has been no mention of free toiletries, and a lovely warm fluffy towel for free. Why not?

A place to park

Yes, the Mount is getting more congested. Yes, one-way roads may help things.

Maybe convert the camping ground land on the Pilot Bay side of the hot pools into a large car park.

There are huge amounts of people who walk up and down and around the Mount each day. Give them somewhere to park.

Keep the camp on the seaward side for our visiting tourists.
